Blue Logger, SA2006HH and WM5

Postby Turner Morgan » Tue Nov 08, 2005 10:33 pm

I "upgraded" my Dell Axim X50v to Windows Mobile 5 and just about every piece of software "broke" including SA2006HH. I got a "new" version of the Dell Navigation software that works with WM5, but I don't like that package as well as I like the combination of Blue Logger and SA2006HH.

I think the main problem is WM5 now has a "hardware" port, COM7 on my PDA, and a "software" port, COM8. The GPS sends data to the "hardware" port and the software is supposed to listen on the "software port. On the SA2006HH, I can select COM8, but the software is expecting to see the Blue Logger at that port. Apparently MS did this so the Bluetooth could support more than one GPS software package from one GPS receiver. Anyhow, the software cannot "find" the GPS receiver.

Has anyone out there been successful in getting SA2006HH to work on a WM5 upgraded PDA? If so, I would appreciate knowing how you did it.

Thanks,

Turner

In my X50V, I set WM5 GPS to Comport 1 and then the Street Atlas HH 2006 GPS setting in the program to Comport 1 also, and my Earthmate works fine.

Still having problems w wm5

Postby mark.wilson » Wed Nov 09, 2005 12:05 am

Can you give me the specific settings you used. I'm getting some odd choices in the HH software. COM1 (in a foreign language) & COM3 as an IR. I'm using the Blue Logger.

You know you can go back to WM2003, don't you?

That's what I did. The bluetooth situation with WM5 is unbearable.

If you go to the forums on Aximsite there is a link to Dell's downgrade exe.

Sorry if that's not the answer you wanted to hear...

Yes, you are right about the foreign language in the program with comport 1. But that's what I use and it works fine. Get 3D lock and Tracking without any problems. I speak only Amer.English, but who cares as long as it works. Set the other items as I previously stated and give it a try.

WM5 Bluetooth setting - Program: COM 1, Hardware:?

In SAHH GPS Settings - Device: Earthmate (I have a BL), Comport: COM1

That's what I have had everything set to with no luck. I got it to work with MS Streets & Trips 2005, but that is about a worthless program on a PDA.

Getting Blue Logger to work with WM5 and Dell Axim

Postby DanB » Sun Dec 11, 2005 5:05 pm

Cory at website http://www.pcboard.in/image-vp20473.html posted the following which worked for me:
"Steps to use Delorme Blue Logger Bluetooth GPS and Delorme Street Atlas USA 2006 Handheld with a Dell Axim x51v running WM5:

On the Devices tab of the Bluetooth Settings choose "New Partnership..."
When "Earthmate Blue Logger GPS" appears, choose it and click Next Enter Passkey "0000" and click Next Check "Serial Port" as the service to use from this device.

On the Bluetooth COM ports tab you need an INCOMING Port at COM 8 and the GPS on COM7 (outgoing)

On the WM5 GPS icon and select the COM 7 on the programs tab. On the Access tab check "Manage GPS automatically (recommended)"

A soft reset will make The Bluetooth COM7 available in SAHH. Select it under setting, but don't try to connect yet.

Before you can connect to the GPS you must go back to the WM5 GPS icon and UNCHECK "Manage GPS automatically (recommended)" Then change the setting of COM7 by either checking or un-checking "secure". It does not matter which way it is left but you have to make a change!

Then go back and re-check "Manage GPS automatically (recommended)" at the WM5 GPS icon.

When you go back to SAHH you will be able to connect to the GPS.

As long as you always leave the Axim Bluetooth on you will be fine. If you trun it off you will have to start again from the soft reset.

It's ridiculous to have to got though this, but it works. Maybe the anticipated Dell ROM update will make this work properly."

If you do this with Blue Logger Manager be sure not to close it because it forgets what com port to use.

Thank you DanB...I was about to pack up the Blue Logger and send it back.

I hope I have more luck connecting it to the IntelliGolf PCC software...

BT solution for bluelogger also works for Holux GPSlim236

Postby Zephyrman » Fri Jan 20, 2006 9:13 pm

The post above for connecting via bluetooth to bluelogger in WM5 on the Dell Axim X51v (via Cory's post at another website) also works for the GPSlim 236 receiver.

Just thought I'd pass this on because it ended my week long struggle to get SA 2006 HH working with my Holux GPS, and I've seen posts in several forums on this problem.

It seems like the SA 2006 HH is the culprit.

I had no trouble connecting the Blue Logger to the Intelligolf application on the Dell X51v. WM5 settings: BT outgoing com 7 (BL partnership), BT incoming to com 8, and GPS icon to com <none>. The Intelligolf software only connect to the GPS when needed (good for power savings). The connection time is less than a second.

The folks who wrote SA 2006 HH need to fix the application.

I'm still waiting for a patch for SA2005HH. The program is full of glitches and never had one patch, I repeat, not one.

Delorme's happy to sell you handheld software, but not interested in supporting it.

If you have problems, the common suggestion is use a laptop and the desktop software.
SAHH2005+Bluelogger+More

A good and patient customer, turned bitterly disappointed by poor product and support of GPS Navigation software for the handheld.

Anyone seen the patches come out?

Postby Zephyrman » Mon Jan 23, 2006 12:59 pm

Yes, I'm waiting for Delorme to patch 2006 SA HH and I've heard that MS and Dell are going to release some kind of WM5 update that addresses connectivity issues.

Has anyone seen these patches or know if or when they might be released? Just wondering because the current connection wtih my Holux PGSlim 236 via BT to WM5 and SA2006 HH is darn cumersome to manage on my X51V.

Hi all,

I just thought I'd drop in and give a bit of an update. We are planning to release a patch, around the beginning of April that will add support for the BlueLogger, SA2006HH and Windows Mobile 5. At this point the update will be solely centered on updating the program to see the com port; display issues will not be addressed in this update.

I'll keep everyone posted as soon as I have more information.
