PN-20 1.4 Firmware Update Beta 2

Postby Jobi Wan Kenobi » Fri Feb 15, 2008 10:51 am

Hello:

Here is the next version of the PN-20 1.4 Firmware Update (Beta 2).

Please see the Welcome! topic for information about running Beta Firmware.

New Functionality

Device Setup
-You can now set a unique Datum for both Coordinates Primary and Coordinates Secondary.

Find
-For Address by Name searches, "Street#" changed to "Building Number" and "Name" changed to "Street Name".
-Find By Name now requires only a single character in the Name field to trigger Alphabetic results list.
-Find Menu adjusted to more clearly indicate current Find Mode (Near Map Center/By Name), and to clarify how to switch between modes. Same done for Begins With and Contains when in Find By Name mode.

Map Page
-USA Topographic 2008/2007 and GIS Layers can now be managed through Manage Layers.
-Custom Raster moved higher in the Data Layer list.
-Enter button can now perform a Map Pick based upon Current GPS Location (rather than having to enter Pan Mode).

Routing
-View/Hide added for Routes. This allows you to View a route on the map (Road Routes created on PN-20 will still Calculate) without entering Navigate Mode.

Satellites Page
-Improvements to GPS Accuracy when not using WAAS.
-Satellite Page text color change for Winter and Autumn color schemes for increased clarity.

Tracks
-"Start Recording New Track" now default setting for "When Track is Full" in Track Settings.

Waypoints
-Full Page View for Waypoint Comments (From Waypoint Details page, choose Menu...View Comment Details).
-Current Symbol is now default highlight when entering Waypoint Symbol list. This makes it easier, for example, to change a Geocache symbol to Geocache Found.

Bug Fixes

Find
-Find improvements to prevent crashes, other Bad Behavior.
-Fixed a problem with the Highlight on the Find Page. Highlight will now properly cycle through results after Viewing a Result, then Quitting back to Results, then Scrolling Up.
-Waypoint Find results now refresh if you Edit a Waypoint, then Quit back to the Find Results.

Tracks
-Track Details should now more closely match GPS Log File Details.

Updater
-Improvements to the Updater to prevent lockups during the Update process.

Waypoints
-Waypoints created from a Map Pick (using the Cursor) are now placed at the actual click position for Line/Poly objects (previously they could end up at the center of the object instead of where you clicked).
-Improvements to Waypoint Averaging (Estimated Accuracy could increase inappropriately).

Known Issues (doesn't replace Beta 1 list.)

Device Setup
-The Directions page can display once if it is first in the Page Order when you turn the device On.
-Changes to Coordinates Secondary no longer alter Coordinates Primary.

Find
-Waypoint Edits may not be reflected in Recent Finds.
-Waypoints may not display in Recent Finds.

Map Page
GIS/Draw Objects may not always be returned in a Map Pick.

Route
-While in Navigate Mode, Viewing a Route other than the one currently being Navigated may leave you in Navigate Mode (only Viewing the Active Route should leave you in Navigate Mode).
-When a Route sent from Topo USA contains Vias, the Distance to Finish may be inaccurate.

Tide
-Invalid characters may display in the Station field the first time you enter the Tide page after turning the device on.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

This never struck me before, but that's a big firmware file. It looks like it's 10-15 times bigger than the firmwares I used to load on my Magellans.

This is no complaint, mind you. I'm just impressed at the amount of code that goes into one of these things. Is this including any basemap data?

Firmware updates do inlcude Basemap data. As there may be folks out there who have yet to update T6-era devices, the Updater needs to provide new Firmware along with T7-era map data.

I did find that I had to power my device down and back up before it would connect with the computer after the update.

Should we add to the existing Beta 1 comments, or are separate Beta 2 topic's going to be setup?
[And I sure wish other people would stop downloading the upgrade so mine would go faster  ]

I think we can continue with the existing topics. Its easy to jump to the end using the Page Number links.

When posting, indicate whether you are using Beta 1 or Beta 2.

I more question:

Do we re-report problems that aren't listed as fixed or as a known issue?

Example: http://forum.delorme.com/viewtopic.php?p=64863#64863

If I transfer Beta 2 to my device will it wipe out all my routes, waypoints, etc? I have everything set up perfectly for this weekend. This scares me.

What do I do?

No, those are already recorded. That is a good reason for continuing the existing topics. If you find a problem, it you can scan through to see if it has already been reported.

Do you mean the "Multiple Objects" dialog appears (if there are multiple objects) when Enter is pressed from the Map Page without being in Pan Mode first?

Yup. If there is only a single object under your GPS Postion, pressing Enter will display its details page. If there are Multiple Objects, then you will get the Multiple Objects choice dialog.

If Custom Raster has been moved closer to the top, why is ImageReg all the way at the bottom?
[I realize these are the default positions we are talking about, as any layer can be moved by user].

It shouldn't be that low in the list. I've passed this along to get it moved up, Jefferson's Style!

Could you explain this one? Haven't been able to figure it out :?

-USA Topographic 2007 = Topo 6 data for XMap.
-USA Topographic 2008 = Topo 7 data for XMap.
These previously weren't in the correct location in Data Layering, and may not have showed up.

-GIS Layers
This was added as "future support" for the next version of XMap, which should be able to cut Transparent GIS Layers for the PN-20.
