BT-20 not connecting to XP Pro and Toshiba BT Drivers

Postby mphare » Mon Feb 15, 2010 11:42 am

Hi,

I have a Fujitsu laptop with Toshiba BT drivers.
I can connect any number of other BT devices to my LT including a Palm T5 and a pair of Motorola S805s without problem.

I have used Street Atlas for many releases now, and have used the LT-40 USB connected GPS for several years. Works like a champ.

When I upgraded to SA 2010, it came with a BT-20. Cool. No Wires. I charged up the unit and went through he pairing procedure. 0000 for the passcode. My Toshiba BT settings shows the BT-20 as installed on COM40.

Now, when I turn on the BT-20 my assumption is it would auto connect to the Laptop. But it doesn't. I open up the Toshiba's BT Settings and do a manual connect on the BT-20. The Toshiba BT Settings shows the BT-20 in a connected state (The icon changed from unconnected to connected), however, the blue LED for the BT on the BT-20 does not stay constantly lit. It continues to blink.

I set up SA2010 to use COM40 for the Earthmate, but it won't see the GPS and never gets a signal, even though I get a green LED for the Satellite on the BT-20. The 'Sat Info' show 'No GPS'.

If I connect using a USB cable, reset SA201 to use the USB connection rather than COM40, then SA2010 sees the GPS.

So, first question. Should I need to manually connect the BT-20 in the Toshiba settings? I don't have to do that for any other BT device I use.

Second, why don't I get a solid blue LED for BT?

Third, why doesn't SA2010 'see' the BT-20? I understand this may have something to do with the above connectivity problem.

As soon as anyone can figure this out, I'll gladly try any solution found!

As stated previously in this forum, I did exactly the same as the OP in this thread, upgraded to SA2010 with the BT-20 after using LT-40 successfully for a long time. The BT-20 won't work on my ASUS UL20A with two different BT dongles. It won't work on two other desktop PC's with either of the BT dongles. Only difference between mine and the OP's problem is MINE won't work even connected via USB!!! It shows connected via USB, but never finds sats. My LT-40 finds them instantly sitting in the exact same place as the BT-20. I can sometimes get the BT-20 to show up connected to the laptop, but the blue light never gets solid blue and I can NEVER see even ONE satellite, not one.

I reckon I'll have to try and get thru to support one of these days and see if they can help me. I got no help here other than the usual. I can connect to other BT devices, I can use either of my dongles on many computers and they work fine. Only the BT-20 won't work at all.

Well, the BT-20 started working yesterday. I drove to and from work and it tracked just fine.
I go back today and I cannot get SA2010 to start the BT-20 again.

I press the 'Start GPS' button, and the BT-200 goes solid blue, but the SA2010 still reports 'No GPS'.
If I press 'Stop GPS' nothing happens except the program hangs until I go into the BT manager and manually disconnect the BT-20.

What up with the BT-20?
