I have a bit of an unusual tool that I would like to create. I would like to be able to take pictures or video of every plant in a nursery and geotag each of these images as a way of uniquely identifying them. From reading some of the entries here, I believe that one of the roadblocks to doing this is precsion and accuracy. A bigger problem may be recording hundreds of "Waypoints" from some sort of GPS device and storing them. I think the number that I could store would be limited, but might be resolved by uploading onto a laptop or PDA.
Is there any system or software that might allow me to retrieve hundreds of GPS readings from a device and store them in some way for later processing? I am not sure what the limitations would be for these various devices. Can I log geological coordinates every second from a GPS unit to a laptop or to a PDA? How often can these exchange information?
