BT-20 - Connection to PC By USB - not working

Postby SmilinVamp » Thu Apr 17, 2008 1:26 pm

Hi there,

Is there a driver file for the BT-20. I don't have Bluetooth yet and am trying to get my BT-20 to connect to my PC with the USB.

When I plug in the USB I get a message that "Windows detected a malfunction or doesn't recognize the device" or some such thing...

I am using Windows XP. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

I have not tried BT yet because I don't have a BT receiver. This USB connection should work regardless.

Thanks for any help! 8)

Well, I bought a Bluetooth Dongle and the BT-20 works ok this way. Still doesn't work with USB though. Which is odd, I thought it was advertised to be flexible in connectivity. Oh well, as long as it works I guess...

I don't have one, but for the USB, you should be able to use it. If your not sharing it with a non DeLorme product, (using USB/Serial drivers) then....

- In Options/GPS
- Device = Earthmate
- Port = USB

Don't plug it into a USB hub, and make sure the USB port has power that doesn't get shut down by a laptops power saving features. For plain USB, there are no other drivers needed. Double check the instructions that came with the device.

I have an exact same problem with my BT-20. It works fine with bluetooth with Palm T2, but never worked on desktop or laptop via USB connection.
Any update to the problem?
Thanks

The little switch next to the USB port has to be in the middle position, I had the same issues. Unfortunately the instructions are vague in regards to the switch, if I recall, it is just supposed to be an on/off switch, but there are 3 positions...

I went with USB, because it was an automatic connection, I didn't have to initiate the GPS via bluetooth everytime when I came out of hibernation or restarted my computer.
