BT-20 on Eee-PC

What a great little 'car' computer. It'd be great if there was a software version that would work with it.

The BT-20 is, like many other Bluetooth GPS's, strictly a device that sends your current location over bluetooth. There are many devices like it.

Hundreds of free and not free programs work with bluetooth GPS's.

Anyone had any luck finding a gps software/mapping program that works on the Asus Eee pc?

That lack of convenience was one of the main reasons I rejected the Eee, for my own personal use, but I'm really interested in the experiences of those who've embraced the device (and os).

by that parenthetical final remark, I presume you mean Linux? :)

some years back I (think I) used GPSdrive -- worked well enough back then, I presume it has gotten better since. (I don't use a GPS often enough to keep up to date with it, however tomorrow I'm beginning a trip to Europe [and yes, I'm wondering what support there is for Euro maps right now -- I'm guessing "none" :( ]

just bought the BT bundle tonight "on sale" at Fry's (**and** with a $40 rebate, my effective price is something like $25 -- including tax!) I have an older magellan unit [also sans euro data, but yesterday I managed to extract Google-earth tracks and upload them to the meridian, so at least I have something to go by] I was actually in Fry's to get a USB--SERIAL adapter since my new netbook doesn't have a "real" serial port, then saw this deal (and didn't find out about the rebate till I was paying for it -- bonus!) My thought was to use it as a backup device and "at least" follow along in the car I'll be renting. After my trip I'll be looking into putting linux on my netbook, but right now I have to finish packing...

EEEpc / BT-20

Postby PHGarey » Wed May 20, 2009 2:29 pm

I've just purchase the BT-20 and TOPO with the specific intent of putting it on my ASUS netbook model 1000HE.

Has anyone had problems issues / experience with TOPO or Street Atlas on the XP-Home version of the ASUS netbooks? Lessons learned? I'm new to Delorme ... Thanks

From what I've seen, I wouldn't expect any problems. Be aware that TOPO 8 takes up 5+ GB if you install everything.

I haven't taken the plunge yet, but I'm contemplating going with an ASUS Windows XP netbook, the BT-20 and TOPO 8. I was originally considering getting a new high end Garmin to replace my aged Streetpilot, but I like the Delorme maps and my PN-40 so much that I think I'd be happier this way.

I find no problems what-so-ever with my ASUS Eee PC. I've used it many times and tested it with SA 2009, Topo 7 and 8 with several BT devices and wired receivers. I still have SA and T8 installed. I assume you have the version with a fairly large HDD. If not that would be the only draw back. I plan to install the floor mount I ordered from DeLorme this week.

EEEpc / BT-20

I'm happy to say the handshake between the Eee [1000HE] and the BT-20 was uneventful. Reading elsewhere, I noted the "0000" code; and also the com-port assignment. Other than that - install was a non-event. As to Topo 8.x ... that's a different matter. It will take me awhile to become familiar.

Bob: Please post successes / challenges with floor mount for your Eee. What make / model vehicle?
