XDATA - include route and start/stop/finish information

Postby treerouter » Wed Jan 18, 2012 2:22 pm

It would be very useful if the XDATA table included fields for route and start/finish/stop# so that the export file (and the table itself) could contain information about the route that the address has been placed on.

I have been hoping for this feature for the past decade or more. It seems that Street Atlas 2012 was released today, but no changes were make to the XData import/routing functionality.

Also, upon XDATA import, it would be a nice improvement if the user could separately designate a field/column to "show on map" and a different field/column as the "name of point on route". If I pick the street number to "display on map" that is what prints as the start/stop/finish on the directions for the route and that is what is exported in the <name> <cmt> and <desc> field in the GPX file. If I pick a full street address (number and street) that works better for the directions and the GPX file but clutters the map too much.

If more data fields are desired for keeping track of route numbers etc, or even for creating routes by placing an (x) in a route column field and then resorting the column, they must be created by user in spreadsheet or database before import.

Getting the desired data to display in routes and/or on the map may be trickier and require use of multiple databases and Draw file waypoint symbols in addition to basic database display as per the Key West sample. Picking XData tab flags and Draw tab waypoint pushpins that lean in different directions can be useful.

As to adding new features in route directions, time scheduling, and comment fields, that seems to be out of user control unless done manually with limited available tools.

John,

I am suggesting enhancements to the product. I know what the manual work-arounds are.

It does seem that they could add a few fields to the old Key West data as an example that it is possible to do so.
