Redlight Camera / Speed Cameras

Postby usascottwright » Tue Mar 23, 2010 4:34 pm

Why not also create an index and mark where Red light and Speed Cameras are perminatly set up. It will give an audible "Red Light Camera ahead" or "Speed Camera ahead, speed is 45 mph on this road" The user should have the ability to add or delete a camera if it has been removed.

There is a website http://www.poi-factory.com/poifiles/us/red-light-cameras that you can download that information and should be able to load it into Street Atlas (as a temporary solution to your suggestion)

POI Factory files have an audible alarm file. Is there a way of getting the alarm when approaching similar to "Voice Navigation"?

Yes. GPS Radar search for "Custom" Waypoint(s) of your choosing. Shortest time interval for search is 1 minute, so set the Search Area distance according to how you drive.

This could get a little annoying and also may not be all that reliable, but I have more than an accademic interest at this point in time. But probably not enough to lug a laptop around.

I never thought of GPS Radar. I will have to think about that. Thanks

This attached image is from Topo8, and is an overview of the state in which I previously left GPS Radar "Custom" search the last time the subject arose.

Reduced to 720 pixels wide, but maybe it is readable with magnification.

Very nice JM_2. I'll give that a try next time I'm wandering in the city.

I try to spend most of my time out of the city and looking for red light cameras isn't habit for me.

Just a suggestion here

It would enhance SA of one could enter waypoint names into a form of some kind. i.e. Known Speed trap or traffic camera come to mind, but I'm sure there are others. POI Factory and Discovery Owners (I'm sure there are others) have many specialized files available for down load. This function would allow setting the time to alert like "next turn" does now.

The "Form" is that brown colored box in the picture.
