Re: Mac version? No - iPad version

Surely would like an iPad version of Delorme Street Atlas USA. Navigon and MotionX GPS Drive have some decent road navigation apps for the iPad. They equal Delorme's product for local driving. Long distance travel mapping with both lacks all the features of Street Atlas USA. But I bet I'm like a lots of folks. I will accommodate on the iPad and give up Delorme's software before I will give up my iPad and go back to traveling with a laptop in my lap. Suspect Delorme is missing a marketing venue given the overwhelming popularity of the iPad. TwoNav looks promising as well for the iPad. It will be interesting to see who has the largest share of the market in a year.

Although I most certainly want a Mac version, I totally agree with this suggestion. The MotionX-GPS Drive and other apps just don't get it for long distance planning and driving. Trip planning with Street Atlas on a laptop seems about the most useable means, but it would be SO much better driving with only an iPad. Transferring the map files from Mac to iPad would make this process so simple. For example, when we RV in the motorhome, my wife tries to answer my inane "where is so and so" or "how far to this or that" questions. It would be much simpler for her using the iPad in her lap rather than reaching for the laptop up on the dashboard. She might not even lose her spot in her current (paperback) book. But, I guess that, based on past history, having a Mac and/or an iPad version of Street Atlas are just dreams....

Indeed. DeLorme has lost its opportunity to live up to the phrase "Lead. Don't Follow." when it comes to Apple compatible products... :?

I still think it would be a smart move for Delorme to create an iPAD app that allows us to use our Earmate GPS devices.

I would be surprised if Apple allowed it.

Route Buddy on a lap top, & Atlas on iPhone/pod/pad.
DeLorme seems done on the Mac front, too bad, so sad!

I think they should still go for it. There is a loyal customer base that would give the app a good head start and help spread the word. My vote says it is better late than never. I have a few friends who are app developers and they have told me that mapping applications can be very effective because you can store the maps in a cloud server, so if you are willing to pay there is plenty of space. Do you guys know anything about rackspace?

There are many of us that have not yet purchased an iPad. If Delorme can get it out, I still think it would be a hit.

I am so ready to ditch my Pioneer FT-900BT
