lots of places dont have live traffic info. only large metros and surrounding Interstates.
ie for Atlanta get traffic thru Georgia Navigator including real time camera views. free. these are good for supplementing the road info billboards.
you decide how distracted you want to be.
for real time weather get internet wu weatherunderground (wunderground.com) free or for $10/year minimal ads. they do what they say.
you can set up just like you want. Including rebroadcast to you of local NWS (yes, it's all audio), notification emails of different cities, NEXRAD radar. You can even track weather, fronts, sometimes even cells and tornadoes with NEXRAD. also get wundermaps (modified NWS).
plus lots of individual personal weather stations.
even a national test network for lightning detectors.
try at home, then you figure
you would need average to good laptop and net reception.
It may not tell you what's up in the next few miles but it just might tell you something else..like weather near the airport, near your destination.
wu also has scaled down mobile info. (I have not used)
go to wunderground and see for yourself.
Hey, some is free.
( but also you decide how distracted you want to be.)
