2006 - same error

Postby djculp » Thu Aug 25, 2005 9:44 pm

We just installed our new 2006 StreetAtlas, but are unable to use the Find Tab or Route tab because we get the error "Find tab did not initialize". We tried Updating, but it said that update unnecessary, already installed. So we followed the instructions on the jewel case and uninstalled, then clean installed the programs again. Same error. Any suggestions?

My best suggestion is

1. Back up your SA2005 Delorme Docs folder, so you dn't lose any draw or route files.

2. Uninstall all SA200x versions.

3. Try this clean install: http://forum.delorme.com/viewtopic.php?t=3798
Note: If you ahve any other DeLorme prodcuts (like Topo), be careful what you're deleting from the registry.

See if that works for you.

See http://www.delorme.com/support/streetatlas/sa2006.asp for the Support site. Click on "Contact Support" for the phone number and hours. We do not charge for support for installation problems, although your own long-distance charges will apply. In the "C:\Program Files\DeLorme\Street Atlas USA 2006" directory should be a file named error.log. Have that file handy if you decide to contact DeLorme Tech Support. You can open it in Notepad.

Thanks, but nothing is working. We had no other DeLorme products on our computer. We uninstalled and did another clean install, but with the same results. We will call Support next week. I hope they can tell us how to find the Error Log; we can't find it!

Find Tab Did Not Initialize SA2006

Postby kokosh » Wed Dec 21, 2005 2:11 am

I am having the same problem. At the time of first install, I did have SA 8.0 installed. I thought this might be the problem from reading the posts about the declination file; so, I uninstalled 8.0, reboot, unistalled SA 2006, reboot, installed SA2006. Still have the problem. I am running XP.

Should I just copy the error.log file and send it to Technical Support?

Thanks for all of the help available on the forums, especially from the volunteers.

You can try e-mailing their support as this is a tough week to get help.

I'd try also try calling them next week if they don't respond.

Thanks for taking the time to search for a solution instead of just jumping in and posting.

Find Tab Did Not Initialize SA2006

Postby kokosh » Wed Dec 21, 2005 12:04 pm

Thanks for the advice. I'll contact them as soon as I can.

All of the support information on the support site says the magnetic declination update is not for SA2006 or any 2006 products. If I were to download it, would it help or hurt?

Thanks again for the help.

It probably wouldn't do anything at all. When you get a solution, please post it back for others.

It's fixed...

We did contact DeLorme after our initial posts in August. They answered the phone fairly quickly, and walked us through the procedure. Unfortunately, we don't remember a word of it. Thank you, though, for all the support you all provide here!

Find Tab Did not Initialize--Problem Solved

:D
Here is the reply from Delorme Tech Support:
Hello,
Thank you for contacting Delorme Technical Support. I have included a link below with instructions for correcting this error in Street Atlas 2006. Bypass the section on Magnetic Update and go to the next fix. The Magnetic update is for all products before Street Atlas 2006.

If you have any further questions or issues, please reply to this email.

Regards,
Rob

The link was helpful, although I am confused whether ODBC and MDAC are the same thing. I was conerned that I still needed to install something else.

I already have Windows XP SP 2 installed so I skipped the first step and only installed Jet 4.0. I ran the program and did not get the error message. To be on the safe side, I also performed the re-register the components portion of the fix.

It seems to work, although I didn't find a particular Wal-Mart, which is probably just a database problem and not a prolem with my computer.

Thanks for all of the help from the forums and thanks for the help from Delorme Tech Support.

Find tab did not initialize

Postby BocaExotics » Mon Sep 11, 2006 8:18 pm

Purchased software and having the same problem because I am using Windows XP operating system. Tried many things and have been unable to solve the problem. For being a brand new software program, I don't feel I should be wasting my time looking for a solution. I hope someone from this company reads these forums. I might just have the patience to speak with a tech till tomorrow, otherwise, this program goes right back to the store for an exchange for Microsoft's version of this program.

Sorry guys, I am not running an outdated operating system - this program should work properly.

Thank you,
signed - not very satisified.

Which software? DeLorme markets many titles.

Turning the GPS receiver on first, then getting a fix, is much better than trying to do it the other way around.

Thousands of people are running SA2006 with XP and have not experienced this problem, hundreds on this forum. Did you check out the links in the above posts? If the links don't help, your best bet would be to call DeLorme support; that seems to have worked for poster djculp as well as a few others.
