"Can't open specified USB port"

Postby bobarens » Sun Jul 05, 2009 7:27 am

In SA2008 with USB Earthmate V1 installed on my Compaq v6000 I get "Can't open specified USB port" when I click 'start GPS'.
What's wrong? How do I fix it? Upon installation it choose COM4 by default. :cry:

Plug in the GPS receiver first, then start SA2008.

In the Options window -> GPS Settings tab, make sure Device is set to DeLorme Earthmate and Port is USB.

After doing the above steps, try clicking Start GPS. If it still doesn't work, check that USB port with a flash drive or any USB device to make sure it is working. You can also try the Earthmate in a different USB port on your computer. If these steps don't work then your GPS receiver might be bad, in which case contact DeLorme.
    Word Usage Tip:
    * Then refers to time.
    * Than is used for comparisons.
    Turning the GPS receiver on first, then getting a fix, is much better than trying to do it the other way around.
