Vista and Topo 5.0

If you are running home premium you need to disable "desktop composition" to get the mouse to work correctly. But 3-D doesn't work so is there going to be a patch like there is for ver 6 to fix this? Or does anyone know a work around for this?

I'm not speaking for DeLorme, only for myself, a non-DeLorme user.

I doubt they will issue a patch. They updated their latest software, I don't think they will take the time to fix Topo 5 as it's a declining support market, and they would probably prefer you upgrade.

Thats what I was afraid of. I received 5.0 in Dec and now that I upgraded to vista I have to spend more to upgrade topo again so soon. I do a lot of offroading and the 3-d function is nice.

I find it very annoying that now that I have switched to VISTA I had to buy a new version of the Street Atlas because it would not work at all and now Topo 5.0 has lost a big part of its functionality. Why isn't DeLorme like other manufacturers and offer patches??? They a quickly driving me away from their products !! :x :x

What manufacturers do that? When I moved to XP from Windows 98, I had a number of programs that would not work with XP and none of the manufacturers made a "patch" for my software, so I had to buy new versions that were made for XP.

Edit: I also had hardware that became non-operational with XP because companies did not update drivers for XP. However, the software and hardware incompatibilities were not a surprise to me because I ran Microsoft's Upgrade Adviser and knew beforehand what was going to work and what would not. When I ran the Vista Upgrade Adviser, I saw much more software that would not be compatible AND I'd have to a complete system upgrade to even meet the Vista hardware requirements.

    I agree with Emrol Ed.
    The issue is with Vista.
Why should 100s if not more, perhaps 1000s, of software makers have to issue patches and fixes becaue Microsoft has chosen not to make Vista backward compatible?

Why should OS software be any different than hardware?
I bought a first time CD-RW drive for my PC and everything else worked.
Then I replaced it with a faster CD-RW drive and everything continued to work.
Then I added a first time DVD-RW drive and.........
...... new mainboard, SDRAM and CPU and.........

A big ditto here. I needed a new laptop. I went shopping at Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. Every model they had on their shelves came with "Vista preloaded" (they acted like that was some great selling point).

So I special ordered a Dell -- with the tried-and-true XP operating system.

    I've never regretted it.

(A month later I advised a friend of my daughter's to do the same.)

Yeah, I really doubt that Delorme will issue a patch to make Topo 5 work with Vista. Topo 6 has been out for a while now, and from a forum post by a Delorme staffer, is sounds like Topo 7 will be out before year's end. If I had Vista (fortunately, I don't) I'd just wait a little bit and upgrade to Topo 7.
