disabling "Center on GPS" button has no effect

I'm running Street Atlas 2009 and loaded Topo 5.0 and SP 2.
I keep getting a message 'OEM path invalid' when starting. Is there a length limit to path?
Also, Whether I click or unclick the 'Center on GPS"button the map still centers on GPS. I've unchecked "Center on GPS when tracking" in the "Options subwindow of GPS tab.

It has been a long time since I used Topo5, but on the right hand side of the screen in the Map Control Panel, is there a button for Recenter on GPS highlighted yellow? The toggle in the Options should take care of it, but just a guess.
