Topo 4.0 question

Postby racewrks » Tue Feb 12, 2008 1:34 pm

Our snowmobile club has 4.0 software. We are trying to make a new GPS trail map. When I donload the data from my Garmin GPS it comes up on the screen. The problem is that it draws a straight line from any end points of the tracks.I can't figure out how to get rid of them. The map looks great if it didn't have those silly straight lines. :?:

Not quite sure what you mean by a straight line from any end points. Any chance you could provide a screenshot?

Not quite sure how to put a picture of it here.Still trying. As I GPS a trail it has a starting and ending point. At that point I either shut off the tracking or shut off the GPS unit. When I start tracking again everything is fine until I download to the Delorme software. At that point it not only shows the tracks, but also shows a straight line from the starting and ending points.

One more thing, how about attaching the an1 file of the track, if you don't mind..[I should have asked for it the first time  ]

Don't worry about how you sound, we all started at ground zero in the beginning.

An AN1 file is where Topo stores the information you are looking at. It should be in your DeLorme Docs/Draw folder. Not sure where on your hard drive the DeLorme Docs folder is though. Could be at the root directory, or in your My Documents folder, or even in the Programs Files/DeLorme/Topo4 folder.

If you goto the Draw Tab, then select File. The directory column should give you that information:

With the Folder locations and filename, you should be able to navigate to this location after pressing the Browse button under "Add an Attachment" when posting.

There wasn't any information in the DrawLayer.an1, but the bgl1.an1 file as your 6 waypoints (symbols), and the bgl.an1 file as the track.

It's been a long time since I've used TP4 (curretnly using TP6/7), but try this:

1) Goto the Draw Tab, select File. Double-click on the bgl file. This should center the track on the display and make it Active.
2) Press Done button.

3) Press Select button (actually, zoom-in first[see step 4], then press this button).

4) Zoom-in the area shown below. Now click on track. The track line should have little squares at each track point.

5) Click on one of the squares. This should change it to a red circle.

6) Now, press the Delete key on your keyboard. This should delete the selected point (red circle). Keep selecting track points and pressing Delete key until the desired points have all been deleted.

If the above procedure works, you can also select a point and then click-and-drag it to move points that are out-of-place, this will help clean up the track a little more.

Here's the track after I deleted some points and moved a few others. I've also attached the modified bgl file.

I tried what you said to do,it did not work  But it did seem to work with your 6.0/7.0 version..In the 4.0 version there is no little squares on the track to click on.

Bummer! Guess I'll have to dig out my copy of TP4 and load it up.. In the mean time, if the modified track looks good, you should be able to download the bgl.an1 attachment to my previous post and use it.

maybe we should just buy the 7.0 version. We still have about another 50+ miles to GPS for the final map.

Probably a good idea - Lots of new features.
