Can't remove base data locations

Postby rae8836 » Sat Dec 26, 2009 2:24 am

Long-time Delorme and xmap user. Just installed xmap 7 editor on a new machine (Win7 x64) Have 5.2 editor on the old machine, XP SP2. I copied all the old projects, draw files, and so on from the 5.2 machine to the 7 machine, revising directories as mentioned in Article ID: 472.

I have Street level data 2010 installed on the hard drive of the new machine and I also have Topo data 2008 on a cd. I normally have both data sets active when I am running xmap.

When I open a new or existing map and go to 'Map Data', 'Data', 'Base Data', I see lines for downloaded datasets, downloaded charts, the street level data I have on my hard drive and _two_ entries for my cd. All lines have check boxes to their left and if I set or clear the check boxes the base data sets are added or removed from my map as expected.

Problem is that under no conditions can I make the 'Remove' button come active. I would like to remove the second occurance of my cd data set. I'd also like to remove the dowloaded charts line and add it back if and when I download charts.

What do I need to do to make the 'Remove' button come active?

Hey RAE,
Unfortunately, those can't be removed easily. All those entries are 'hard coded' into the application thru registry keys. (And the reason you have two entries for the CD is because one is a machine-dependent location, the other is a user-dependent location. Same with the Charts location, unfortunately.

If you're okay in the registry, the chart location (and other locations, but I don't recommend messing with them until you know the consequences) is in:
HKLM\Software\DeLorme\XMAP7\SysPaths\VolumneData\Charts\ Rename that folder ("key") with the program closed, then launch the program and the folder won't be listed.

Thanks for the quick response.

Having that stuff in the registry is certainly different behavior from 5.2.

I have had to go through a multi-step process several times in 5.2 to 'pick up' map dataset entries - didn't mind once I found out the proper sequence of actions, and I liked the idea of being able to sequence the entries in order of most frequent access. I'd like to do that resequencing this time, since the order presently showing has my Topo cd well before the Streets data, and I very definitely use the Streets data more than the Topo. I'm not uncomfortable dealing with registry entries, but it does seem a bit extreme.....

Anyhow, thanks again.

I believe I have a similar situation. I upgraded to Windows 7 with my Xmap 7 and in doing so it copied over all of my data to my new machine. When I open any older projects or even try and start a new project it tries to link to Streets 2004 data for routing and it can't find it. I have XMAP USA Topo Data 2009 and do not need the connection to 2004. How can I remove it? Without removing it, I must wait for the links to try and load and then go through the error messsages that come up. Thanks for your help!

Hey Froggie -

This requires registry editing - so if you proceed and end up blowing your finger off or your computer up, you can't blame myself or anyone else here. :)

Exit XMap7..
Open regedit.exe.
Navigate to the folder HKLM\Software\DeLorme\XMap7\SysPaths\VolumeData. (If you're on x64, let me know, you won't find it there.)
You will see a whole bunch of sub-folders, starting with "0", and going as high as you have data locations.
Open each folder, and look for the key on the right that says "Path". One will be pointing toward your SA data.
When you find it, highlight the numbered folder on the left and click 'delete'. It will ask you if you're sure you want to remove the key and all of its subkeys.
Click 'Yeah, I'm sure'.
Re-run XMap7, it shouldn't load that data anymore.

Cool - in that case, look in:

HKLM\Software\SysWow64\DeLorme\XMap7\SysPaths\VolumeData
