Cache Register Issue

Postby Kurt » Fri Nov 06, 2009 12:14 pm

It appears that www.geocaching.com has rolled out an API change and our Cache Register application now sends red push pins to the device rather than the correct GC.com symbols. At the current time we are looking into the issue but do not have a time frame for resolution.

It also appears that I now am unable to load any geocaches from my PQ. It only loads waypoints and I see the red pins. :(

Thanks for the info. I came looking specifically for why this was happening, and now I know! Will there be an update to this thread when it's resolved?

Wish I had read this before spending a couple of hours trying to figure out why it was not working. After downloading a new pocket query there are no caches listed on the device under "Not Logged Caches". If you look under Waypoints you will find all of the caches listed. As indicated these show up as push pins instead of the cache icons. Also not all of the comments/logs are listed under "View Comment Details" and the option to view the hint is no long available.

I just purchased this software and the pn-30 specifically for these options. Hopefully a fix will be available soon.

Friday night getting ready for the weekend. When I try to use Cache Register, it accesses my PQ's but shows all of them unavailable. AAARRRGGH!

It not only affects CR, it's affecting T8. I typically shake and bake my PQs through GSAK, but tonight I ran a test. I downloaded a PQ and imported it to T8 and all of the caches came up as traditional. None of the puzzles or multi's came out correctly. GSAK still handles them correctly which is nice.
Cheers!

I downloaded a PQ as a .gpx file and saved to my computer. I then used CR and imported it from there. My PN-20 reads them as waypoints with red pushpins.
This is all I get in regards to caching information:

GC1TZNY -- Red Map Pin (Draw Waypoint)
Comment: my first hide by jimenez7's, Traditional Cache (1/1)
Point Created: 6/19/2009 7:00:00 PM CDT
Location: Helotes, TX
ZIP/Postal Code: 78023
Layer: WaypointLayer
78023 (Helotes, TX) -- ZIP Code
Bexar County (TX29) -- US County
Texas (TX) -- US State
United States (US) -- Country
Mouse Click Position
Latitude/Longitude: N29° 32.06', W98° 43.68'

Hope Groundspeak and/or DeLorme can get a fix on this, and soon. Really soon. Baby shower at my house tomorrow for my daughter in law and soon to be first grandchild. I've been told by SWMBO to vacate premises. Women only. Oh shucky darn

If you want the PQ to be handled correctly until the CR is fixed, I suggest downloading GSAK. Export the GPX out of GSAK to import into Topo then export to your handheld. Of course, if you're Mac bound, you're hosed.

I hope soon as well. I really wanted to use CR to help with PQ's so I could get out and place some more chaches. Being able to blanket an area with an PQ helps me determine the best location and avoid violating the one degree of seperation requirements.
Guess I'll just do some bbq'ng this weekend  (which does take some of the sting out of lost geocaching time)

Ugghh. I'll pile on my frustration as well. Flippin' groundspeak, they are such a dolts. Why would they do this right before the weekend. I'm already out of town with a ton of caches loaded getting ready for some major caching this weekend and I just noticed no geocaches. Just waypoints as red push pins and of course missing a ton of info.

GSAK is sitting on my home computer and unreachable. The worst is that groundspeak is NOTRIOUSLY slow at fixing bugs they create. Hopefully, with some help from an incredible company and sponsor like Delorme, groundspeak will get it corrected quickly.

I'm sure groundspeak will send us a prorated refund of our premium membership for mucking up our weekend. :D

LOL! After spending 10 bucks for CR, another 10 for T8 (after spending around 275 for T7  ) I can't get the full meal deal from the PQ? Just lovely. I know!! I will simply use my GeoBuddy which I spent 25 bucks for about 2 years ago... ...crud... ...GB doesn't support Delorme. Just lovely. How much does GSAK cost? I know!! I can just preview my PQ and go to each cache one by one and download to the unit, that still works! Just lovely.

All this after fighting the stupid PN-40 USB cable is persnikety about hooking up to the computer issue (the cable was part of the 275 bucks for T7 - see above).

I bought the 40 because the Garmin Colorado was so awful (operational-wise for me but since I don't like my brother much I sent it his way but it turns out to work swimmingly for him and he loves it) and the 40 is exactly what I want but with all these issues the only thing I can think of is I hope the high end Garmin users are having the same PQ problems, LOL!!

You can still use the Send to GPS option to load some cache while the problem is being through.

It appears that Groundspeak is also aware and working the issue on their end: http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index. ... &p=4117243

Are Groundspeak and Delorme talking to each other? It appears to me there was a communication breakdown on the schema change, either on Groundspeak's or Delorme's side. Can't tell which from an outsider's perspective, but as important as the two are to each other for the consumers' benefit, hopefully the source of the breakdown will be looked at, as well.

Just my two cents.

I have my workaround with GSAK. However, it is a little different than TotemLake's option. I have GSAK version 6.xx and not version 7.xx. V6 does not have the same DeLorme functionality that V7 recently added. I imported my PQ into GSAK v6 and then simply saved it as a gpx file from there. I opened CR, clicked on "import pocket query", navigated to where I saved the PQ, and it loaded onto my PN-20. As far as I can tell right now, they loaded as geocaches with all the info instead of waypoints with minimal information. Yay!
