Importing geocaches by name

Postby John SKP » Sat Nov 07, 2009 1:32 am

I don't know what happened, but all of a sudden my imported geocaches are showing up as GC numbers. All along they came in as names. What do I do to get the names?

Thanks snow_rules, but I don't use CR. I use PQ's through T-8 . I still get the treasure chests on the pn-40 and T-8, but with GC numbers only. Also, I am not getting anything in the comments except for name, owner, type of cache and (D/T)

The problem isn't with CR, but with a change that GC.com made on their end. The fact that TP8 is giving you treasure chests is an indication that there is a problem. They shouldn't be treasure chests, but GC.com cache-specific icons instead. I'm sure DeLorme is working hard on the issue from their side, but if they are dependent on GC.com for all or part of the fix, then we can hardly blame DeLorme. In fact, we can't blame them anyway -- GC.com blindsided them with this change :!:

I may have found a temporary work-around if you import your gpx file into T8 to load your PN.
1. Open the gpx file in notepad.
2. Select Edit/Replace.
3. In the Find what: field, insert "http://www.groundspeak.com/cache/1/0/1" without the quotes.
4. In the Replace with: field, insert "http://www.groundspeak.com/cache/1/0" without the quotes (delete the "/1" at the end).
5. Click the "Replace All" button.
6. Save the file.
7. Import the revised file into T8 and perform a normal exchange to the PN.
It seemed to work for me, but I haven't done extensive testing. I'll monitor the forum for more results. Good luck to all of us as we wait for GC.com and Delorme to work out a permanent solution.

Same problem here. I'm glad to see it wasn't just me. I could not get PQ's to load properly (today) I tried Topo8 draw layer and cache-register. Sounds like a problem at geocaching.com. but I haven't been over to their forums yet to check it out. Too busy caching the old fashioned way!

Not as of this morning. Since it was started by DeLorme support staff, I am watching this thread for a resolution:

Well this sucks. I tried to run a new PQ and it simply isn't working. When I did a manual import, half the data is missing. I hope DeLorme and GS can get this squared away soon.

In the thread mentioned above, Kurt says "sometime this week". Perhaps it's time for another "Are we ther yet?" thread?

Moved post to the Topo 8 Forum and left a "Shadow" in the previous location.

UPDATE- Both Cache Register and Topo USA functionality should be fixed this week...
