Mapnotes save in one file but not next

Postby tquinn » Sat Oct 23, 2010 3:52 pm

I am working with 2009 SP2, and am using the simplified file management (I verified that using the dropdown by the options button).

I have a map with a route, and several mapnotes on it. That files saves and reloads fine, recovering all the mapnotes.

Next, I take that same open file, modify the route, and save it to an entirely different filename. When I then retrieve this second file by the new name, all the saved mapnotes have disappeared. I've tried this several times, it is repeatable.

What can I do to keep the mapnotes from disappearing in the second file? I just want to have the same information in two files including the mapnotes, but with a different route in each.

Thanks

I've tried several things, including simplified and advanced file management, making a copy of a "good" draw file and trying to import it into the sAF file that is missing the draw elements. Neither worked.

70 people have viewd this post so far and nobody has responded. If you have any idea, please let me know. I cannot believe that this hasn't been a problem for someone else.

BTW, I tried the same file on a laptop with SA2009 loaded, same result.

Sorry. I thought maybe it was somebody else's turn to post.

Try going to the Route Tab>>Advanced>>Route Prefs and see if there is a place in SA2009 to turn on (enable) the Map Note check boxes. The default for the Map Notes in Topo9 is unchecked. Good luck.

John,

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it didn't help. At your suggestion, I checked the three unchecked boxes that activate showing location mapnotes, coordinate mapnotes, and summary mapnotes. When I turned them on , it lit up the blue boxes with coordinates, minutes/miles , and road names, but not the manually entered, white "blank mapnote" that one puts on the map in route mode, by right clicking on a location.

Again, those added white "blank mapnotes" with text added to them, will save fine with the file in which they are first made, but if you then try to "save-as" that same map to another filemame, and then re-open that other filename, they are not there.

I just created a Map Note in topo9 and clicked on the floppy disk to save the file. Then I created another Map Note and opened a different project without saving. Only the first Map Note was saved to the original projeet file.

So it seems that the moral of the story is to save your Map Notes if you want them to be there when you reopen a project. Non-Advanced mode may work somewhat differently in Street Atlas as you may have to work within a single Project file.

John,

Not exactly sure what your sequence was. But with the SA2009, I did save he .saf file with the mapnotes before I closed it. Then on reopening it, the mapnotes were gone. Since I did this with simple file management, my understanding is that it should save all the draw files including mapnotes with the then-current .saf file. But it doesn't seem to be doing that.
