Garbled Nav screen

Moderator Note: Moved thread to SA2009 forum (assuming poster means "SA2009" and not "SA9" which is a real old version of StreetAtlas).

Greetings from Rome, GA:

New user here. The Nav screen is garbled and I can't see 2D or 3D streets - I CAN see the icon of my car - and it turns and navigates, what-have-you, but the streets are un-intelligible. Everything else is okay - just the streets can't be seen. Anybody have an idea where to start? I am running Windows 2000 and the video drivers have been updated.

Thanks,

Welcome Trux. You may need to provide a little more detail. Your question would appear to apply more to whatever software you are running than the Lt-40 itself. I am guessing you are trying to run Street Atlas or Topo USA but it might help to know what you are running it on. It could be your system is not up to 3d capabilities. Check your video card and make sure it has the latest updates. You can disable 3d through the tab manager of Topo and with the 3d button while in Nav mode of SA. See if that helps. If not get us a little more info and maybe a screenshot. Someone else will likely pop in with suggestions. Good luck.

Ooops - so sorry; yes, software is a BIG "what - if", isn't it?!?... I forgot to add I am running the SA 9 that came with the LT-40. Maybe later today I'll go back out on the road and disable the 3D to see what happens....

Windows 2000 is the likely culprit for the video problems, and may not be officially supported in later Delorme software.

Also may be a hardware issue. A laptop old enough to be running Windows 2000 may have very limited graphics hardware. You might try reducing color depth (16-bit instead of 24, or even 8 instead of 16) or resolution (800x600 instead of 1024x768.)
Are you the reason I'm so far above average?

Thanks for the response everybody. Looked at the system requirements and 2000 is okay, but SA requires a 3D card with at least 32mb of video ram. The Presario 700 doesn't have that - :o - looks like a need to get a new laptop (aw.... shux..... :D )
