Windows 7 Installation Failure

Postby bschift » Sat Dec 19, 2009 8:23 pm

When I try to install SA 2009 on my laptop running Windows 7 (64 bit) I get the error that I need to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package. If you look at the add/remove programs list, it's already installed.

Is this a problem with the 64 bit Windows 7? I have another laptop I can upgrade to Windows 7 32 bit. Are there any issues with SA2009 on 32bit Windows 7? Delorme tech support says it doesn't work but I see numerous references in the forums that it does.

I guess my bottom line is can I upgrade my 32 bit laptop to Windows 7 and safely assume that SA2009 will work.

Thanks.

The best I can suggest is to get SA2010, it will work.

You said folks have said 2009 works with Win 7, but when I checked the forums, I found that "some" folks said it worked, others were having problems, and others gave up. This is typical of OS changes because the PC's hardware and software is normally what can cause problems on one PC but not on another.

DeLorme can't say anything but, "It won't work" because Win 7 wasn't supported for SA2009, as SA2010 is.

I'd bet that there's a 32-bit version and a 64-bit version of the C++ package being referred to. i have no idea if the 32-bit version can go onto 64-bit Windows, but I'm betting the app can't use the 64-bit version, which would be why it fails.
Are you the reason I'm so far above average?

It is interesting though that both SA 2008 and SA 2010 work fine on my Vista 64 bit, so it would seem that SA 2009 and Windows 7 64 bit should work. But I think Dan is right ... 2010 is the way to go to get support from DeLorme.

As my other post, just one thing after another with Street Atlas 2009 & Topo. I have window7 64bit, cannot install and
it now will not let me uninstall Street Atlas 09 or Topo. I tried to install and uninstall in Safe Mode, no luck. You
can delete folders, but that leaves a mess. I may just kiss Windows 7 good bye with a format and reinstall of WinXPpro. :)

Well, my first attempt was on someone else's computer just as a test to see if it worked. I decided to upgrade my computer from Vista to Win7 and try it, figuring I'd just upgrade to SA 2010 if it failed. I had to install the C++ run time but after that, SA 2009 installed fine. I had installed the C++ runtime on the first machine as well but it didn't run.

I haven't tried to do anything with it on the Win 7 machine but the program will at least start. Will try the GPS and creating some maps over the weekend.

Greetings,
Well I have ordered Street Altas USA 2010, but I still can not uninstall 2009 or anything to do
with 2009 or Topo 08.

Anyone have any ideas on how to uninstall? Have tried everything, just starts, stops and that
is it.

I have had success with this for some uninstall problems: Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

Just went through this. Had a Acer Laptop with 64 bit Windoze 7. Originally installed SA009 without a hitch. Charging circuit went bad and had to get a new Laptop. This time it wanted Visual C+++ 2005. Tried everything to no avail from the 64 bit version to x86 version. All failed.

Then I was looking on the install disk for SA2009. There is a directory "ISSetupPrerequisities". In that directory is a sub folder for Microsoft Visual C+++ Redistributable. In that directory is the install file vcredist_x86.exe. I don't know what the difference is, but once that is installed, SA2009 went in without a hitch. Have no idea what is the difference between it and the ones I downloaded from Mickysoft, but the one on the Delorme Disk worked for me. Hope this works for you. :D :D :D
