get rid of 'grey' undetailed area on map

Postby Patuli » Wed Sep 23, 2009 4:36 pm

I don't know why this started showing up, but there's a square on the small map to the right of the map files, find, draw, etc. It shows up as a grey aerial view that I don't know how to get rid of!!!!!! Driving me nuts.
Any ideas on how to get rid of it? I need the map to just display the streets, etc. not the aerial overview.

Thanks

Although I didn't download your doc file, I think you just need to click on a black triangle or grab the overview frame "handle" with the mouse.

Look for the "Toggle Imagery" button on the top tool bar.

Oh, that "aerial" view. That is probably sample imagery of the Pasadena area included in the application install disk. Should have downloaded the doc file, but didn't want to argue with Vista and click a couple of buttons.

I can toggle the gray area off. I want to be able to have it not come up automatically at start time. It is in the .ini file - - in which sub directory does it live and what is it called? thanks

Look under your Map files Tab (on the left side) to see if Aerial Imagery, or certain files, can be toggled off. If that doesn't work, and you have no need for other such imagery, look at the ADD button on the right side under the Map Files Tab.

Try this:

  • Click the Help button in the toolbar

  • Select Welcome Screen

  • Select Open a Recent Map File

  • Select Hide dialog and use current Map File (at the bottom)

  • Click OK
Now each time you start StreetAtlas it will open with your last saved map.

Actually it is a very detailed 'gray' are if you zoom in close on the hi-res city data. Sometimes you can make out the type of car in the photo 8)

After you understand xapie128's post about controlling what mapfile and what position on the screen a mapfile opens at, here is some more stuff for you.

Note first that the toolbar's Toggle Imagery tool's status (on or off) will be retained when you close the program and open it again, only if you Save the mapfile when you close it. If you don't, it will be at whatever status it was when you opened the mapfile the previous time.

Here is something else you can do. On the Map Files tab, scroll down to the last 4 options, ADP,Color Aerial, Satellite, and USGS options. If you click the + sign it will open them and show all the maps that are in that type of data. If you uncheck this data, those maps will not show regardless of the toolbar's Toggle Imagery status, because you have said not do display that data by unchecking it. Your defeating the Toggle Imagery's function of a very quick access (and no access) to this type of data by doing this, but if that's what you want, do it. Later when you download some data you want, just remember that if you want to see it, it has to be checked in the Map Files tab.
