Try this. Go to the Map File Tab, click on File, click on Transfer, click on Import. I know it is obvious when you find it but it is sometimes hard to find.

Map Files/Files/ {no Transfer option available}

Postby piovere » Fri Dec 05, 2008 6:03 pm

I'm having the same problem. I was given a .dmt file. In the Help it says to do Map Files/Files/Transfer/Import.

But, in Map Files/Files there is NO Transfer option. Can someone please help me? Thanks.

You need to be using Advanced File Management (AFM) for Transfer Files.

See page 12 of the SA2009 User Guide for how to change to AFM.

    I have the Map Files/Files/Transfer/Import
but when the window opens, it only looks for .saf files and not .dmt.

How do I make use of a .dmt file I downloaded from here in SA 2010?

I don't think you can. *.dmt is a Topo only file. It's a map package for Topo.
It's the Topo equivalent of a *.saf file in Street Atlas (same keystokes create it)
    viewtopic.php?f=59&t=9908

I don't have the programs here at work, but you can try putting *.* in the Street Atlas name box (forces a "show all files") and then click on the *.dmt and see if it opens.

This is another reason it's better for people to post their Draw and Route files, and not the map transfer packages.

I haven't messed with this in a good while, but I just tested transferring between Topo 8 and SA2010. I had no problems, with one importing the other's transfer file. Did kind of surprise me that it worked, but I think what has happen is that the differences between SA and Topo as far as files, are the extension. A lot of the code is morphing into one. The actual data imports just fine. The transfer file extension is the same for both programs.

I did however at times see what I believe the OP is seeing where you select File/Transfer/Input and then get the Open for *.saf SA files. A couple of times, I closed that window and the Import Transfer Files *.dmt was there. Not sure what that was all about, but it did happen.

Just to be clear, this was using 2010, so it's very possible this didn't work in 2009, which I have un-installed on my desktop. My laptop which still has 2009, isn't available right now.

    Dan-
SA2010 route files posted by users do not open in my copy of SA2008+, but do open in Topo7 and Topo8/

    Sorry, that's incorrect.

Topo's .tpx files are equivalent of a *.saf file in Street Atlas.

A .dmt file is created when you select Transfer File.

To cdbbdc, here's what you want:

    • Map Files tab

    • File button

    • Transfer -> Import -> select your file
However, consider a different method. Transfer files have significant drawbacks in that they re-create the embedded files every time you open them. They are made for a one-time use when you send a complicated file to someone else. If you only have, say, a Map file and an associated Draw file and Route file, consider just sending them alone without going through the Transfer File method.

do'oh! In my defense, that was pre-coffee.
Many years ago I posted that delorme needs to simplify either their folders or file types that are actually the same, and clarify the ones that look the same but are actually different.

Actually I think they did listen to you. I would swear that years ago there was no way we could import a transfer file successfully from Topo to SA or SA to Topo. I was kind of shocked to see that it would now when I tested it.

Even in their help for SA they reference your project, not your map file....although they do still heavily reference "SA map file" and except for a few references call it a project as above.

      Saving a Map File
      ....snip....
If you have saved the map file before, the Save dialog box opens. All of the changes made to the current project display as a check list.
      ....snip....
