BUG: Mark A Waypoint (Ctrl-M) Not Working

Postby Tom M » Sat May 31, 2008 10:56 pm

For some reason while naviagting with gps, the Ctrl-M Mark A Waypoint feature doesn't seem to work. I went back and tried it in SA2008 and it still works there.
It's listed in SA2009 Keyboard Shortcuts in the Draw Group, but it doesn't work.

Any ideas why if it worked in 2008 and not 2009?

thanks

"BUG" added to subject to get DeLorme's attention, and to help others find it later when bug-checking the next edition --The Mod Squad

You are correct. I can't get it to work either

My idea: DeLorme threw a hap-hazard-rush-rush beta testing at us that wasn't a valid test at all. This is just another BUG that proves it.

Out of curiosity, I reinstalled the second SA2009 beta (non-Plus, Feb. 2008) and the "Mark a Waypoint" keyboard shortcut worked.

Well, it doesn't work for me. All I can do is to try an uninstall and reinstall (Delorme 'clean') and see if that helps.
    I'll report back tomorrow.
    Thanks

I know. I posted in response to Xapie128's comment about beta testing.

I participated in the beta test of SA2009, so I reinstalled it to see if CTRL-M worked when it was tested. That just shows that the bug got in after the second beta test.

      OK, here's my latest status:
I noticed that I still had SA2008 installed as well as SA2009. Since the Ctrl-M worked in SA2008, I thought there might be an interference, so I uninstalled SA2008. No change to SA2009.
Then I check Topo 7 and found that Ctrl-M worked fine there.

Soooo, I did the uninstall of SA2009. Did a clean prep with MSConfig, reboot and %temp%, and then reinstalled SA2009.
The Mark A Waypoint (Ctrl-M) still does not funtion. And yes, I had my Earthmae Lt-20 attached, and operating with a 3D lock.

OK, DeLorme, it's time for you to jump in here and help me please.

ps- I always configure for Advance usage.

I was wondering about waypoints with this software....how do you mark them without using the shortcut?

I think I'll bump this thread...

I've contacted DeLorme about this issue.

I received a reply from John in their technical support department on the 4th. His suggestion was to ensure that the proper scheme was selected. It was.

I replied to his message with a description of everything I've tried to get it working and requesting further thoughts from him.

      No response so far.

Anybody found any kind of solution yet?

Is it possible that waypoints just plain don't work in SA2009?

      That'd be somewhat disappointing...

I've been told by a source that Delorme is aware of the problem but it is unknown "if it will be fixed in a Service Pack this year or the next version."

I am personnaly very disappointed that DeLorme did not immediately come forward and state that it was not functioning when I originally posted.
I wasted a bunch of time trying to get it to work and un-intstalling then reinstalling that could have been avoided!

As far as a work around, you always can right click and add a map note of your choice for the waymark. Unfortunately, I use Waymarks to mark spots, like overnight possibilities, as I'm slowly driving and the Ctrl-M was wonderful. I can't safely make a map note while driving.

      Tom,

You and I apparently use GPS in about the same way.

It would have been nice if a problem had been acknowledged in the response I got.

For the moment, I've obtained a copy of SA2008 and will be using it until they fix the issue. Not a perfect solution, but functional. I much prefer the screen layout in 2009.

As an aside, I find Ctrl-M useless as my keyboard only has a Ctrl key on the left. Alt-` on the other hand, I can hit without looking.

The bug extends beyond the short cut key

I am unable to enter any waypoint or waypoint labels directly into the map using the draw menus

Also I have found I can't add Symbol or text for symbols

Text Label is the Only way I have been able to add to a map after adding missing streets and or locations

I skipped 08 because of the bugs I heard about.
Now I think I should have skipped 09 as well

The sad part is I paid the full retail price for this version and not the upgrade price because I needs yesterday for a trip :(

I've had no problems manually entering any Draw object of the 12 Draw Tools (or adding Routable Roads).
Explain exactly what you want to do and how you are trying to do it and someone can offer suggestions.

Big mistake. SA2008 was the best release DeLorme has had since the interface change back with SA2003.
In my opinion SA2009 is fraught with problems--so much so that I'm seriously thinking of going back to SA2008.

I, too, believe that 2008 was one of the best releases in recent history. I upgraded from 2007 and was very pleased with 2008.

I'm not upgrading to 2009 until there are fixes for some of these problems. Delorme, are you listening?

I am able to draw way points now.
All it took was a reinstall and allow 09 to install the unwanted extras

        No custom install ?

Note also that I waited to upgrade to 09 till after the first service patch
Old habit I picked up from dealing with M$

        One note
        If they got 08 correct
        Then what happened to 09
Where did my Clear route button go from 07 :?:

I'm back to using the file/delete to clear routes :(

I'm with you guys; I really like the ability to mark a waypoint quickly while on the move. This is a huge bug for me as I use that feature all the time ...at least I did!

        Cheers,
