Service Pack 2 for SA2009

Postby Dan Lawyer » Fri Apr 11, 2008 5:05 pm

Before you post a problem, make sure that you have installed and tested the same issue with SP2 installed.

This is a major upgrade to the program interface, with some pretty slick new features, and some long requested enhancements.

SA2009 Service Pack 2 (note: it includes SP1)

Unable to Install SP 2 for SA 2009

Postby Ranchhand » Sat Aug 30, 2008 5:38 pm

Having recently installed SA 2009 on my laptop, I have just downloaded and attempted to install SP 2. Every time I attempt to run SP2, I get a message like "The upgrade patch cannot be installed because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program..." Since I have installed SA 2009, the program seems to be working fine, both alone and with the LT-40 GPS receiver.
I DO still have SA 2007 and SA 2008 installed on this computer, if that gives a hint as to why SP2 for SA 2009 will not run. When upgrading, each year, I have kept the old versions as backups in case the new version does not function properly.
If you can give me any advice as to the problem, and its cure, I will certainly appreciate it.

SA2009 SP2

I have the same problem. I did a "repair" to SA2009 and that did not help me a bit. I have downloaded the SP2 to my computer and cannot get it to install. I would certainly appreciate any help for this problem, too.

Make sure you turn off any firewall or anti-virus software and all other applications when attempting an install. You might consider going back to a system restore point before you installed, turn off the AV, firewall and other apps then reinstall SA 2009 and then the SP2.

SA2009 SP@

Postby jayrwv » Sun Aug 31, 2008 10:49 pm

Thank you for your help. I did restore to a point previous to SA2009 install. I did close everything running, ie: AV, firewall, etc.

Now when I try to reinstall the dvd will not start automatically. I did find the 'setup' on that drive and did install it. But when I start the program and click on NETLINK I get "error creating control" and
"Delorme SA2009 Netlink2 Control1"

Also it says no printer installed. My printer works fine. So I am perplexed at this monster of SA2009. I did the reinstall twice (after uninstalling it before reinstalling).
Should I just give up and go back to SA2008

I have had success with the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility when having problems removing and reinstalling programs. You may just need to run it and cleanup SA2009 and then reinstall it.

I received a procedure from Delorme to fix my problem. The link is:

Thanks jarwv. I hope the fix works better for you than it does for me.

When I try to select "Hide All Microsoft Services," and then "Disable All" after typing "msconfig" in the run menu, I get the following message: "An Access Denied error was returned when attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the specified changes."

Since my computer only has ONE user, me, as the Administrator, I cannot understand what it is wanting.

Does anyone have any idea what the "fix" for this anomaly is? Any help is most appreciated.

I ran the up-grade with SA2009+ open and this was the start of a lot of problems for my computer. I tried installing re-installing etc. with very little luck. I was almost going to spend big bucks for another computer. I got PC Tools Registry Mechanic. It took running this program and then installing SA2009+ and then with SA2009+ closed, installing the upgrade to get all working again. SA2009+ messed with the register big time.

My computer is over 2 years old, so I would think I needed registry mechanic even before SA2009+ messed your the register. Installing and uninstalling a number of programs over time leaves the register in a bit of a mess under normal circumstances.

Note to Ranchand. You are so right. I have administrative privileges. I wrote Delorme. They told me to establish a new windows account with those privileges. I did that. All that effort and I get the same message you mention. So, as of now, I am through with SA2009. I still have time to get a refund and I am inclined to do that. Good luck everyone.

If your running Vista msconfig doesn't launch with Admin privelages. Nothing does unless you disable UAC.

To get msconfig to launch with admin rights do the following.

Start > Accessories > CMD (right click and chose "Run As Admin" or similar)

A black window will open simply type msconfig in it and it should spawn msconfig with admin privelages.

    @ heislerb
SA 2009 didn't do anything to the registry it shouldn't have. You caused it to fail to do what it needed to do by attempting to run an update with the program running. Your issue was your fault not the programs.

    @ Ranchhand, jayrwv
I'd check you About menu in SA 2009. It probably already has SP2 installed. My copy straight off the disk is SA 9.2.0 - SP2

This thread was started in April first reply was Ranchhand in Aug. Unless you bought your copy before June (guessing) it probably is the SP2 version of SA 2009.

I had the same problem but then found that my copy already had SP2 installed from the factory (check the "about SA2009" under the help tab).

Check Help and About to see if you already have service pack 2 installed. This message should only come up if Service Pack 2 is installed.

I just purchased SA 2009 and began looking for tips and upgrades.
Found the SP2 download and when I tried to install it, I got this same error message.
As suggested, I looked at the HELP "About" and discovered It already had SP2 installed.
Delorme should have written in an error message that recognized the pre installed SP2 instead of a generic error message that said you are too dumb to know if you installed the program correctly or not.
