How to reorder and move stops

Postby brucebrod » Thu Aug 19, 2010 1:01 pm

Is there a more efficient way to insert stops in the order on the you want, or reorder them efficiently on the Route-Advanced window? And can I move stops on the map rather than delete them and put in new ones?

I maintain lengthy round trip routes to document my trips. When I want to add stops on the return, SA puts them along the first part of the route, forcing me to push them down the Advanced list one position at a time. Can't drag them to a new position on that window. Is there a better way?

Similarly, I have not found a way to move a stop to a new location. The manual says
- To change a route point, click the corresponding tool and then click the new spot on the map.
- OR
- Select a route point on the map and drag it to the new location on the map.
I can't get this to work. Must be referring to something other than a stop.

Thanks much!

The Plus version permits creating routes in desired order for large quantities of data listings under the XMap Tab by selecting ranges using either the Shift or Control key plus the Enter key. This is in accordance with standard Windows file management, perhaps. I do not currently have a Plus version of Street Atlas installed to double check, but have previously posted necessary steps in SA Plus forums.

As to the "Add" Stop/Via (in desired order) vs. "Insert" Stop/Via (computer decides) method controversy, either search the forums or refer to the User Guide (Help). Good luck.

You can do both . . .

Right-click where you want a Stop or Via, rest the mouse cursor on Create Route, then select Insert (Stop or Via) and it will place it in the most logical order.

Or, right-click where you want a Stop or Via, rest the mouse cursor on Create Route, then select Add as Last (Stop or Via) and it will force it to take the order in which you place them.

To reorder them from Route tab -> Advanced, click a line in the list shown in the middle of the window, then click the up or down arrows on the right to move it up or down in the list.

To move them, Click the button with the white circle (Via) or yellow circle (Stop) in the tool bar then drag one of your Vias or Stops one the map. Click the button again to de-select. For more options, see my posts here: http://forum.delorme.com/viewtopic.php?f=123&t=20077

Thanks very much for the replies. I like the ability to move stops and vias, which I had not noticed before.

I guess I could use the XData function to reorder my stops. But I add a new Stop along my return route day by day. My current three month route has 57 Stops and I ain't home yet. Exporting and importing each day seems too clunky to me. As clunky as pushing Stops down the Advanced window. Adding the Stop as a Last Stop is better than nothin', I reckon.

Sure would be nice to get a prompt to renumber a stop to a new position.

    Thanks again for your help.

If you have the Advnced window open, where you're looking at the list of stops, then you use the yellow button (or white for a Via) to place a stop on the map, it places it after the stop currently selected in the window. In other words, just click on the stop in the list that will be before the one you want to add, then add the new one by slecting the button and clicking the map where you want it to be.
Are you the reason I'm so far above average?
