Shortcut key for turning off routes

Postby fogcutter » Fri Jun 25, 2010 11:31 am

I accidentally posted this in the general forum but it was meant for here:

I've looked all over the reference card and the support documents but I can't find anything that mentions a way to turn a route on and off via a short cut.

Problem: When starting the GPS for navigating if you have a route from a previous session the GPS will start navigating along that route. Most of the time I'm not interested in navigating a route, I just want the GPS track and speed, direction info to show. Using a netbook, it's very difficult to reach over each time and navigate to the Map Files tab to unclick the route. I can't even find an easy way to just stop navigating without turning off the gps.

Has anyone found a key combination or shortcut that accomplishes this?

Thanks

Ctrl + N will Start the New Mapfile dialog. At that point either Y or N to save changes to the mapfile with the route. The old route will disappear but display of GPS location and track file will be unaffected. As there is no route on the new mapfile, there is no navigation, just display of location and track.

I use this frequently as I no longer use Street Atlas for actual navigation. While on the road, it is used for track recording only. Before the trip I still use it for trip planning, but my main navigation aid is a Garmin 276C on the dash. Don't know why, but Street Atlas is the only program that will receive Garmin USB data from the 276C for more than 30 minutes to an hour. GPSGate and every other program will crash after that period of time, but I have Street Atlas logs for as much as 16 hours.
