How to make a road correction?

Postby WBFAir » Mon Jun 14, 2010 6:23 am

Hello all

Sorry for making probably one of the most redundant posts there is but I really don't know the program that well.

As well I have searched the FAQ & KB but found nothing.

My house is deep in a public neighborhood but is right behind another one that is a completely different neighborhood and a private one at that.

As my house is so close to the private one, every time I go to make a route from it, it always generates the route through the private neighborhood instead of mine and while it may seem silly, it gets annoying either always having to make each route with a via or starting off my journey hearing "off route".

From what I've seen it seems normal to make certain roads not used for "any" route generation but I don't know exactly to do it.

So could someone fill me in?

Thanks

Went into the program, then to user guide, did search for what you titled and this is what I got:
http://support.delorme.com/search.php?q ... 20Avoid%22

Could you please tell me where in all that info is the answer to my question?

Sorry, but I meant the built in "Help' files which are also available in pdf format as a downloadable "User Guide".

here is a copy/paste from topo8 on the "Route Avoid" creation. It should get you going. Good luck. JM_2

Avoiding a Specified Area When Routing
If you know you will be travelling in an area that is under construction or is a highly-populated area with a lot of traffic congestion, you can draw a circle/rectangle/polygon over that area to avoid it when you calculate your route. You can create multiple regions to avoid.

To Avoid a Specified Area When Routing
Use the following steps to designate an area to avoid when calculating your route.

Create a route.

Click the Draw tab to open the Draw dialog area.

Click and hold the Polygon/Rectangle/Circle tool to view its hidden options. Select the tool you want to use.

Optional. Select one or more of the following:

From the Fill drop-down list, select the fill style you want to apply to the draw object.

Click the fill color button to the right of the Fill drop-down list to select the color for your fill style.

Select an outline style for your draw object from the Outline drop-down list.

Click the outline color button to select a color for the outline of your draw object.

Select the width for your draw object outline from the Width drop-down list.

Select the Show Measurement check box to display measurement information for your draw object as your draw it on the map.

If you selected the Circle tool, click the location for the circle's center on the map and drag away from center to set the radius for the circle. Release as soon as you achieve the radius you want.
The radius of the circle and the coordinates of the circle's center display in the corresponding text boxes to the right of the circle fill option area.
OR
If you selected the Polygon tool, click the map to enter each point of the polygon.
OR
If you selected the Rectangle tool, click the location for the rectangle's upper-left corner on the map and drag away from the corner to set the width, height, and area for the rectangle. Release as soon as you achieve the size you want.

Click the Select tool and then click the draw object on the map.
A box displays around the object indicating that it is active.

Right-click the draw object, point to Manage Draw, and click Route Avoid. If the object has no name, it the name "Route Avoid" is visible on the map.

If you do not have the Auto Calculate option selected in the Route tab, click the Route tab and then click Calculate to recalculate your route.

Note To undo your route avoid, click the Select tool in the Draw tab and click the draw object on the map. Then, press the DELETE key on your keyboard.

Thanks a great deal for the reply John

This isn't meant to give you any attitude but I just tried this and when I tried to recalculate the route, it told me the it failed and drew a straight line between the two points.

I then tried creating this before creating a route and it did the same thing, then while the route was as a straight line, I deleted the avoid point an it instantly made a route, of course with going thru the wrong neighborhood again.

Basically I was using the GPS plot point that the program gave me as the spot for my house, this included my driveway, but I went in a moved that to basically to right on the road and now it chooses my neighborhood instead of the wrong one.

Don't know how this will effect the start point in the GPS unit when starting the tracking but hopefully it will be close enough to not be a problem. At least with this one, if it is off route, it won't be for very long.

At any rate, as my days of how to make a program work are over, this is all the time I am willing to spend on this, but thanks for your help John.

That most likely means there's a road break somewhere in the database.
The good news is that you can easily fix that.

Post the Lat,Lon pairs of your route Start and Finish points and someone here can tell you how to fix it.
