"portable" data sets

Postby cousinjay » Sat May 15, 2010 10:22 am

I used the term portable, because I'm not sure how to express it.

I get a spreadsheet a couple of time a week, with the various locations of upcoming job sites.
I also have another spreadsheet showing the locations of our technicians.
And finally, a sheet with prospective technicians.

Once I import these datasets, I sometimes need to make changes from within Street Atlas 2009 Plus. Changing records in an xdata table is no problem.

But here's the question. I want to use the edited data sets created in one map file, in another map. It appears that I can only import from the original spreadsheet which is tedious, time consuming, and inaccurate because it doesn't show the updated data. Is there a way to copy a dds file, directly into a map file which didn't create the DDS file?

If I haven't made my question clear, please ask clarification questions.

Thanks.

HI,
It looks like you fell through the cracks.
I just copied to my folder some older dds files I have created, and you're right in that my current map didn't create them, and doesn't see them.
BUT
There is an easy work around for this.
In the X-Data tab there are two buttons on the left: dataset & query

Go to the map where you created the dds file & call up the dds file you wish to import into a different map.
Click on the query button on the left below dataset.
Query offers you several options:
Your export options are [export to new dataset] and [export to text file]
You can choose to export [entire dataset] or [records in list] or [only selected items]

When you choose [export to text file] you'll get another new selection: path and filename to save.
It defaults to the path: DeLorme Docs\export but you can change the filename.

Then go to your new map file you wish to import this Xdata set into and import the text file you just saved. DeLorme will have saved to a comma delimited text file. It's not a lot of work, so hopefully you won't find it to be frustrating. If you need further clarification, please let me know.
I LOVE Delorme's programs & helping people learn to use them.
I hope I've helped you! Please pass the favor on & help someone out too! ;-)
