Attempting to route a bunch of points added through XData

Postby thesolution » Fri Feb 26, 2010 1:34 am

I am doing a project at a distribution center and am trying to route around 100 points all within 60 miles of each other. Is there an option to automatically route all the points added onto the map with closest location given priority to next stop? It will be extremely tedious to add each of the points to the route I imagine. Additionally, I need to route 500+ points for my next task, so an auto route option would be very beneficial! Any ideas or suggestions?

If I recall correctly on all that follows, it seems like there was another similar thread in either the SA2010 Plus or XMap Pro treads a few days ago. One user reported being able to route up to 200 points using XData, although 100 Stops has been considered the limit for "standard" (non-XData) SA routing in prior versions.

To have the computer figure out the routing for you under the XData Tab, hold down the Shift Key while selecting a range of listings to "Insert". This may be a right-click feature?

To have the computer route the listings in the order they are seen in the list under the XData Tab, hold down the Shift Key while selecting a range of listings to "Add".

I have never done 100+ points but I have done 50 or so and when I did it, I still needed to do some manual reordering to get the route I wanted. It was still a bunch easier that adding all the points manually.

This is a huge tip. I mapped out some locations once by using "Add as Stop" with the right click on the selected locations, and I ended up with over 70,000 miles of driving.

Once I redid it with "Insert as Stop" I came up with about 12,000 miles.

HUGE DIFFERENCE. Thanks for the tip on that. I had forgotten, and this helped tremendously.
