SA+ & Win 7 - Disabling monitor settings?

Postby Sticks » Wed Feb 24, 2010 6:35 am

Is there a know issue with Win 7 and SA '09+ disabling the monitor settings?

Installed and configured the same way I did on my old XP pro laptop, and now it seems that my monitor settings (turn off monitor after 15 minutes) has been disabled. I checked and rechecked my settings, and could not find anything different that I had done in the past.

Screen saver is checked as disabled, and I do not run a screen saver, just turn off monitor after 15min. Should be two different processes.

Computer: Sony Vaio VPC-F1190X.
OS: Window 7 Ultimate, OEM

I occasionally had this problem on my old laptop, but I thought it was an issue with Excel which was running at the same time. This time it was just SA by itself.

TIA

I just tried it on my system, using Street Atlas 2009 Plus with Windows 7 Home Premium. The monitor turns off according to the Windows power setting.

This is a long-shot, but is the microphone enabled in SA? Pressing F3 toggles it. (The word Voice on the tab turns red when it is enabled.) My thought is that if SA detects a sound, it might trigger the screen back on. Seems unlikely, however.

I'll double check that feature. It is not something that I use but I might have it "on" by accident. Will find out tomorrow.

No love. GPS plugged in alone without the program running is OK. Start the program, verified that the voice is inactive (had the tab removed to start with) and still is eliminating the monitor off settings.

I am going to try to disable the "Disable screen saver" option and see if that does it. Maybe Win 7 routes the monitor settings through the screensaver programing.

      Anyone else have any ideas?

I don't have SA09 on this computer, but I believe there is a setting in SA09 to disable the screen sver. I use it when I am using it to navigate and want the map displayed all the time

Although I do not have SA2009, I seem to recall some dropdown menu problems in the Options>Map Features (Display was truncated). Perhaps there were other issues under the GPS Tab too. If you cannot pull the Options>GPS Tab down (stretch it) to see the Disable Screen Saver function, that could be part of the problem.

OK I'm back home and I have SA09.

In the GPS tab, Lower left click "Status" then the "Info button" (icon with 2 check boxes). A Options window opens and in the "When Tracking" sub window use the scroll bar to go all the way to the bottom. There is a check box that says "Disable Screen Saver". Make sure it is NOT CHECKED. Click OK and see what that does for you.

OK, When I was running XP, I had to disable the screen saver as it would loose my GPS status as I was going down the road. Win 7 appears to be able to keep track with the screen saver active.

I am still curious as to why the monitor power settings would be affected on Win 7. Weird one for the Tech guys to ponder.

      Thanks for the help everyone!
