Import for Routing

Postby howudodat » Wed Feb 10, 2010 11:05 pm

Moderator note: Moved thread to the SA2009 Plus forum

How do I import a xls or txt file into the route? I have a list of addresses that I can import ass XData, no problem, but I cant get that into a route.

Also I tried searching on the board for this question, but all my keywords were blocked (route, import, xdata). Note to mods, if you cant search for stuff people will continue to ask the same questions.

It is not clear to me whether the original poster has Street Atlas Plus, and therefore the XData Tab for importing and geolocating by Address. I believe it is possible to import into XData fields in such a manner and then have the routes created "automatically" in XData, up to the usual limits of 100 Stops per route, perhaps.

We need a little clarification as to the version of SA2009 before determining if it can be done easily. Of course there is also the Address Book. too, but that would take a little extra work for routing with the Standard Version of SA2009.

If the XData Tab is available I think it is possible to hold the Shift key down to select a range of records geolocated by Address or other means. and then release the Shift key and Right Click on the selected range to expose the Routing options by the Insert or Add method in a sub-menu.
Thanks. Stay Loose.

The import process is "do whatever it tells you to" under XData Tab, while exercising the few options available to you. If, before importing a database, the user creates a bunch of extra data fields, such as Lat and Lon, then, usually, those data fields can be exported back out as text (csv or other) files. That is the only way that I know to get Lat/Lon fields exported except by GPX files from draw (routing?) layers.

The XData routing process I added in the last paragraph above as an afterthought, probably while you were replying to my original post. It is extremely simple to implement, but maybe not intuitive.

Very nice. The step I was missing was going to the query "view" under the xdata tab and then selecting the records and adding as a stop.
Turns out I do have the plus versoin. My apologies for posting to the wrong group.

Just a quick folow up question:
It shows the route as From:Stop To:Arrive at Stop
Is there any way I can put either a name or address in the from/to field to make it easier to read?

Whoops posted that last question too quickly...sorry...
I found the answer myself, it's when I import the data I can select whatever column to "show on map"
