incorrect map tag location

Postby aleebus » Sun Jan 31, 2010 11:09 am

When i type in the address 4445 S Drexel, Chicago, IL; search yields a location almost 7 blocks south of the actual address! (Between 51st St & 52nd St on Drexel Ave.) Is this something that can be fixed? thanks.

Short answer: No.

It's part of the database. The best you can do is submit a Correction via NetLink and hope they fix it in the next version.

    A follow-up comment . . .

It appears that one short block (called a "Connecting Road" in their database) has way too large of an address range (3900-5129). See partial screen-shot below. That's what it is choosing as the preferred match to your search. I suspect it should be something like 3900-4129, or even narrower.

Here's a hint: If you know the zip code that goes with the street address, sometimes that can help. In this case the goofy "Connecting Road" is in a different zip code from where you want to locate. If you use 4445 S Drexel, 60653 as a search criteria, not only will it eliminate the errant one, but using a zip code search instead of a city name is always faster (and the bigger the city, the faster it is compared to using the city name; especially in Chicago). Of course, the zip code method won't help if the road segment that has the wrong address numbers is in the same zip code as the correct one, but in this case it will help.

The short vector that Xapie128 highlighed is oviously an error. Unfortunately,
Street Atlas will interpolate 4445 as being included between 3100 - 5129 because it is the first entry in the list, sorted by number.

This will likely screw up automatic routing that begins under the Route Tab instead of beginning in the Quick Search window under the Find Tab.

Solution: Do the routing from the Find Tab, and inspect the listings for vector range, if the quantity of errors is excessive when routing under the Route Tab.
