How do you turn off roads?

Postby davehousel » Tue Aug 18, 2009 8:29 pm

I've done this in the past by going to Custom Map Features and turning off what I didn't want. I don't see Major Roads as an option. I also don't see "Line" objects. Has 2009 Plus taken this configurability away from me? If yes, is it coming back? Is there a patch or work around?

The only way I could find roads was to:
- Check "Use Custom Points of Interest"
- Click on "Customize POI's..."button.
- Enter "road" into Search

But, even if I deselect everything, as soon as I click on Apply, SA turns the road layers back on!

So, either Delorme doesn't want you to turn off the roads, or this is a BUG!!!

Does Delorme Read These?

Postby davehousel » Sat Aug 22, 2009 7:50 pm

Should I be bringing this to Delorme's attention or do they read these? What's the best way to send it in if it's up to me?

If I recall correctly, many bugs were discovered in the SA2009 custom map features menu display early in the release cycle. Not every computer seemed to be affected.

There are those of us who sometimes use StreetAtlas for things that do not require roads to be displayed and in fact the displaying of the roads just makes the display too cluttered. I'm not sure that anyone at Delorme actually cares about the bug reports that we send in. I've been buying their product for 10 years and they still can't get the export and import of drawn objects to be complementary operations like they are SUPPOSED to be. With the latest BUG of not being able to turn off roads, they are even moving backwards by removing features that were in previous versions. The old v7 of their product had this feature even and it even WORKED.

My version of Topo6 had indexing problems with the Custom Map Features (and perhaps Topo6PN did too), but Topo7 and Topo8 seem to work reliably for me. However my Topo6 problems could have been computer related, as I switched from an XP tower computer to a Vista laptop computer at about the same time that I started using Topo7.

But I think it was Topo6 Custom map Features that were flakey, and not the XP computer. If so, Delorme made the later Topo versions much more stable in layer indexing.

I've reported the BUG to Delorme. I don't expect them to do anything about it. They don't seem to care about our BUG reports.

Grumman,
I think they do care, but if they cannot duplicate what you complain about, it becomes more difficult to "fix".
I LOVE Delorme's programs & helping people learn to use them.
I hope I've helped you! Please pass the favor on & help someone out too! ;-)
