If you are new to DeLorme, or even a new version of the program with new features, please don't wait until you are having to make a cross country trip to start using the program. I guarantee you, that experience will sower you on even the best program or feature. Know what to expect in advance, and have the opportunity to see how it's all going to work and set it up to work the way you want, before you leave on your trip.
SA2009 introduces some major enhancements that you need to play with in order to get used to. You don't have to use the new Nav Mode, but you will be tempted.
Create a route, then rt mouse click on it and select...
- Manage Route
- then Save as GPS Log (it will save it with the default name of the route)
you can then play back (playback) the log, by.....
- GPS Tab
- GPS Subtab (buttons on the left of a tab)
- File
- Open
- Navigate to the GPS log you just created and double click
- Press the Play button
This process puts the program into GPS tracking mode, almost exactly has how it will handle on the road when you follow your route. This lets you play with the program and everything in it that deals with navigation (Voice, Zoom to Turn, Radar Search, Nav mode(s) etc.), so you can get it set the way you prefer, prior to having to actually drive your route, which is not the time to be fiddling with the program, or finding out it does something you didn't expect.
