Hundreds of Thousands of New Roads

Postby jpbuck1 » Sat May 02, 2009 2:18 am

I was wondering if there is a list somewhere of all the areas updated with new roads for each revision that buyers could check out before buying a newer version 4 years later only to find out the map data for their area is still 15 years old and that the house they have lived in for 8 years and the school they have sent their children to for 4 years does not yet exist (at least with streets).

No, there isn't. Since DeLorme advertises thousands of road updates the list would be very long.

They used to have an interactive map available online, but that's no longer available to my knowledge.

What you can do is ask about a few specific areas and someone can post a screen-shot.

I doubt the utility of this.
We know where we live, where our kids go to school, etc.
I don't use SA for "local knowledge" that I already have.
A list of changes to places that I havn't yet been to would only interest me when I first go there. Not something I can predict with much certainty.

As to whether DeLorme would consider a subscription service for say quarterly diffs files.... That would be a marketing question that MIGHT be interesting to them.
I could imagine it being interesting to some users, perhaps on a regional basis, e.g. North East, South West, Central States, etc.
Personally I would rather pay about the same money for updates than whole new installs every year or two.
New installs are too disruptive (for ME). They bring too much stuff I don't need or want, feature and data bloat, etc.

Some of us have Vista, not ME, and appreciate an update every couple of years.

Are you forgetting the very real possibility that someone might want to send a map of where they live - or a school the kids go to (or other local areas) to someone else as a guide? I've done it many times to people unfamiliar with my area, or from out of state.

I don't find this suggestion to be unuseful at all.

I personally would prefer that only CHANGES to the current maps be available to overwrite existing, or append current maps be available at lesser cost than installing an entirely new database.

Why does SA 2009+ open a new file each time I open the program instead of the file I was most recently working on? Can I change a setting to get this to occur?
